ARMYs are surprised to learn that one of Jungkook's most famous traits was named by Suga's dad

The bond between the members of BTS is not merely a contract that has lasted for more than a decade; it is woven from the genuine affection of a true family. In Suga's own words: "They're people I've been with and seen the most in the 30 years of my life. We've really become a family. There are no other words to describe our relationship. We're family."

What makes this even more remarkable is that this sense of family does not exist only among the seven members themselves, but also extends deeply into each member’s family. Their parents care for and show affection toward all seven “sons” as if they were their own biological children. V’s mother, for instance, once woke up early to prepare kimbap and sandwiches for the entire group while they were traveling together on In the SOOP, worried that the boys might get hungry along the way.

It isn’t only at full-group BTS concerts that fans have seen all the members’ families sitting in the audience to cheer them on. At the solo concerts of SUGA, Jin, or j-hope, the parents of all the members have also been present to offer their support. At j-hope’s solo concert in Seoul, his father even went around hugging each member after a long time apart due to their military service.

The parents of each member genuinely care for and cherish all seven of them as if they were their own sons. To further illustrate this, there is a particularly heartwarming story involving SUGA’s father and Jungkook—an anecdote that few people know and one that is tied to one of the youngest member’s most beloved nicknames.

Jungkook is known by many nicknames—Golden Maknae, JK, Kookie, Jungkookie—but among many Korean fans, he is especially fondly called “순둥이 (Soondoongie)." The name evokes a sense of closeness and highlights one of his most distinctive traits: his soft-hearted nature.

However, what many fans may not know is that this iconic nickname actually originated with SUGA’s father. More specifically, the origin of the name was revealed by the BTS members during a TMI conversation. According to them, SUGA’s father often does not call Jungkook by his real name, but instead refers to him as “Soondoongie.” In Korean, the term is used to describe someone who is pure, gentle, and soft-hearted.

After spending time with Jungkook on numerous occasions, SUGA’s father was likely deeply impressed by the maknae’s kindness, politeness, and sincerity—so much so that he began calling him by this affectionate nickname. Though Jungkook is a global superstar, in the eyes of a parent, he remains a precious youngest child within the family, with a pure and gentle soul that perfectly matches the name.

Fans have realized that SUGA’s father, much like themselves, has been completely won over by Jungkook’s warm heart. They also agree that the nickname perfectly describes him—a superstar who treats everyone kindly and never disappoints others with his character.

By this point, ARMYs are utterly melted by the affection SUGA’s father shows toward maknae Jungkook. In return, fans also recall how Jungkook has repeatedly expressed similar fondness for SUGA’s father, such as by playfully mimicking his regional accent. His imitation is so spot-on that SUGA and the other members can’t help but laugh and acknowledge it every time he shows off this talent.

Ultimately, the story behind the birth of “Soondoongie” further cements its place as one of Jungkook’s most beloved nicknames among fans.
