What Exactly in Jin's Letter to His Future Self at 40 Made Him Burst Into Tears
In most of his appearances before colleagues, friends, and fans, Jin consistently presents the image of youthful, cheerful, and energetic young man—someone who seems outgoing and socially adept. He always appears confident and optimistic, often surprising people with his attitude: "Every time I heard something negative, I would habitually say, 'It's okay because I'm a superstar.' And I would end up thinking that it was nothing after all."
However, in reality, there is another side to Jin's life—one that is far more introverted and filled with inner thoughts. Like anyone else, he experiences a full range of emotions and pressures, yet he never wants to reveal his vulnerability to others, out of concern that it might negatively affect them. Longtime fans have also noticed that He is extremely good at concealing his inner thoughts, and it is rare for them to fully empathize with the pain he may be enduring beneath the surface.
That is why, whenever Jin unexpectedly reveals the deeper emotions within his soul, ARMY truly cherishes and remember those moments. One such instance was when Jin shed years while writing a letter to himself on the talk show "Since Those Days," hosted by Arashi member Aruba Masaki. What left a lasting impression on fans was that, despite being only a few short lines, the letter was enough to send years streaming down his face.
Specifically, the special episode featuring Jin centred around the theme of "reunion and reflection," presenting BTS's superstar from a deeply emotional and introspective perspective. During one segment of the conversation, Aiba asked Jin to write a letter addressed to his future self.
Jin read the contents of the letter aloud as follows:
"To Seokjin in his 40s, how are you doing? I'm filming with Aiba right now. I'm sure you're going to turn off the touching words, so I'll cut it short. Please stay healthy. See you later. From 2024, Jin."
Immediately after reading those lines, Jin was unable to hold back his emotions. He repeatedly raised his hand to wipe away the tears flowing down his face, revealing that the feelings Welling up inside him were too overwhelming to conceal.

Notably, the letter was written under particularly meaningful circumstances: it coincides with the celebration of his 32nd birthday on December 4, only a few months after his military discharge, alongside the release of a new song and a solo album, as well as his taking on Run Seokjin on place of Run BTS!—marking his busy return to solo activities. Given all of this, Jin was likely experiencing emotions too complex to put into words.
The question "how are you doing?" may seem casual on the surface, but in truth, it carries profound weight as a form of self-reflection. The letter became a thread connecting the past, present, and future, allowing him to sense both his own loneliness and his quiet resilience.
Jin's emotions deeply touched the hearts of fans around the world, leaving many choked up as they expressed their feelings.
ARMYs' reactions:
1. This is so wholesome. I'm happy Seokjin let his tears out and didn't keep them in. He's so strong.
2. Stay healthy, my love, and I'll always try to support you as much as I can
3. He deserves all the happiness.
4. I hope he always stays happy and healthy.
5. I hope that in his 40s, Jin continues to be happy and healthy!!
6. I feel you, Seokjin . I really do.
7. Jin is such a wholesome person yet so thoughtful. Sometimes I forget that he is such an emotional soul who hides his worries and sadness behind his bright smile and laughter. I love this guy.
8. He's so precious, and I pray to my Kanha that my Jin Moon always stays happy, healthy, and smiling.
9. I've noticed that Jin has been more sensitive lately. He's emotional, and I'm not sure if it's because of all the love he's been getting or because of some personal reason outside of work, but I've noticed it for a while now. I hope and wish things turn out for the better.
