Busan City and Police Crack Down on Hotel Price Gougling Ahead of BTS Concert

Joint inspections of accomodations and intensified special investigations
Government to implement consumer protection measures and conduct focused inspections

As controversy grows over alleged hotel price gouging in Busan ahead of BTS's Busan World Tour concert, the Busan Metropolitan Government and the police are escalating their response to conducting inspection and launching special investigations.

The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 29th that it will participate in three joint inspections with relevant government agencies on October 8-9, focusing on illegal practices at accomodation businesses near the Busan Asiad Main Stadium.

In addition, School Police Officers (SPOs) will be deployed around the concert venue to carry out guidance and protection activities for young people.

Reports indicate that some accommodation providers in Busan demanded additional payments from customers whose reservations had already been confirmed for the BTS concert period, while others allegedly cancelled existing reservations unliterally.

Earlier, on the 28th, the government held a "Task Force Meeting on Eliminating Regional Price Gouging," jointly organized by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Culture, Sport, and Tourism. At the meeting, officials announced plans for intensive inspections of accommodations businesses in the Busan area and measures to strengthen consumer protection.
