BigHit Producer Names the BTS Member With the Most Unique Voice After Years of Working Together

 

Western music often places the song itself at the center, with performance treated as a "bonus," whereas K-pop is designed as an all-encompassing entertainment package. Rather than prioritizing a single element, K-pop emphasizes the harmonious combination of multiple components—melody, choreography, visuals, vocals, concepts, and more. However, at the core of pop music, the primary focus still lies in the sound. Therefore, for K-pop idols, vocal ability remains one of the most important standard. 

This is no exception for global superstar BTS—more specifically, the group's vocal line consisting of Jimin, V, Jin, and Jungkook. Most fans know not all four members had a background in singing from an early age. While Jimin had an advantage in contemporary dance, and Jin originally pursued acting. As a result, the BTS members—especially the vocal line—have worked tirelessly on their vocal training for many years, from their trainee days to long after their debut. Even at the peak of their careers, they have never stopped stiving to refine their vocals. 

That is why all four members have consistently earned praise and recognition from leading professionals in the industry. Vocal coach Jin Sung-eun—who taught BTS's vocal line from the very beginning—described them as "incredible individuals," adding, "Not only they are great artists, but they are also amazing people. No matter how busy they were, they never stopped practicing and always cared for the people around them." Their ability to sing live has also been demonstrated through countless live performances. 

At the same time, each BTS member possesses a distinct vocal color and unique strength shaped by different experiences and qualities, making direct comparisons between their voices inherently difficult. Likewise, it is nearly impossible to determine who has the "best" voice among them. 

However, BigHit producer June—who has worked closely with BTS's vocalists—once shared his personal opinion about which member stands out slightly more in terms of vocal ability, offering fans a professional perspective on the group's voices. 

For those unfamiliar with him, June has collaborated with BTS since 2017 on various songs. He has worked as both music producer and a vocalist, contributing several BTS tracks, including B-sides "Awake" and "Lost" from the album "Wings," as well as the title track "Not Today" from "You Never Walk Alone."

With years of experiences working alongside the group, there is no doubt that June understands the members' voices exceptionally well, and he has openly acknowledged that each of them possesses a unique vocal color. However, if he had to choose the most outstanding vocalist, June would pick Jimin. 

The renowned producer praised Jimin's captivating voice, stating that he possesses "the best vocal tone" among K-pop idols. He shared, "His singing voice continues to impress me to this day. I believe artists should have a good singing voice that people genuinely enjoy listening to. I helped the members record in the studio. All of them have great voices, but if I had to choose the best vocal tone, I'd say Jimin has the best."

Jimin has received widespread acclaim for his bright, clear, emotionally expressive vocal tone, along with his remarkable control, particularly in the higher register. What sets him apart us not his technique but also his ability to convey emotion through every lyric. Listeners can feel his sincerity and emotional depth in every line he sings. 

Not only June, but many industry experts have expressed similar admiration for Jimin's vocals. Kim Young-dae, a renowned Korean music critic and member of the selection committee for the Korean Music Awards, once remarked, "When BTS is regarded as a sound, Jimin's voice is one if the most important auditory elements that forms the group's fingerprint and overall sonic identity."

Jimin's achievements as a solo artist—including becoming the first Korean soloist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Like Crazy," having the longest-charting K-pop solo song in the Billboard Hot 100 with "Who," and becoming the first solo artist to surpass 1.45 million first-week album sales on Hanteo with "FACE"—are just a few of the many accomplishments that reflects both the widespread recognition of his voice and the immense love he receives from the public. 

Jimin's vocal development has not only impressed experts and fans through his solo work but has also contributed significantly to BTS's overall musical identity. From the vocal line to the rap line, each member's continuous growth ultimately served the same goal: elevating BTS's Music to its highest potential.
