"Tourism and the economy shaken... Ripple effects beyond measurement"

The full-group return of BTS is generating immediate and tangible ripple effects across the global real economy. Following the announcement of their world tour, demand for accommodation and transportation surged in major cities, while an unprecedented scene unfolded in which a head of state formally requested additional concert dates. Analysts note that the so-called "BTS effect," which extends beyond cultural influence to stimulate domestic consumption, tourism, and even financial markets, has once again become a reality.

According to BigHit Music on the 28th, all stadium seats for BTS's "BTS's World Tour Arirang" in North America and Europe sold out immediately after ticket sales opened in the 24th. In particular, all 150,000 tickets for three scheduled shows in Mexico City were sold out within just 37 minutes. Fans from neighboring countries such as Peru, Colombia, and Chile also rushed to secure tickets, contributing to the rapid sell-outs.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum revealed during a regular briefing on the 26th that she had sent an official letter to president Lee Jaemyung of South Korea requesting additional BTS concerts in Mexico. "More than 1.1 million people attempted to purchase tickets for the Mexico City shows, which sold out instantly," she said. "Given the overwhelming demand among young people eager to attend, we made a diplomatic request." Instances in which a national leader formally requests expanded performances by a specific artist at the government level are extremely rare in their history of global live entertainment.

This tour is rewriting records within the concert industry itself. Billboard, a leading U.S. music publication, projected that BTS will generated over US$ 1 billion (approximate KR₩ 1.45 trillion) in total revenue from ticket sales and merchandise during this tour. Their solo performance at Stanford Stadium marks only the second such event by a global artist, following Coldplay. Additionally, BTS will become the first Korean artist to perform at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso and M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.

The domestic economic in South Korea has also responded immediately. Ahead if the BTS 2026 Comeback Show @ Seoul scheduled for March 21, accomodation facilities near Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul have already reached full occupancy. On the 22nd, the Seoul Metropolitan Government approved the use of Gwanghwamun Square for the event, contingent upon enhanched safety measures. This marks the first time a single artist has held a solo performance at the venue.

Forces analyzed the tour as "one of the most expansive in history, setting a new benchmark for world tours by Korean artists." The UK's Guardian described the tour as "a mega-event capable of paralyzing the economies of North American cities," predicting an impact surpassing Taylor Swift's Eras Tour.

Tourism Economics, a global economic analysis firm, stated that "the standard economic multiplier used for concerts dies not apply to BTS," adding that "the scale of visitors stays and spending is so large that measuring the impact itself becomes difficult." Beginning April 9 at Goyang Sports Complex Main Stadium, the group will embark on a world tour spanning 82 performances in K-pop history.
