HYBE is joining forces with global audio and music streaming platform Spotify to expand the global reach of K-pop content.
On the 6th, HYBE announced that it has signed a global content partnership agreement with Spotify and will launch an official video podcast channel on the Spotify platform. The core of this partnership is that HYBE will plan and produce video content, while Spotify will support its distribution so that music fans around the world can watch and enjoy it.
HYBE pursued this collaboration after recognizing the rapidly growing influence of video podcasts in the global music market and as a way to broaden the points of engagement for K-pop content. With Spotify—home of approximately 751 million users worldwide—firmly established as a leading platform in the podcast service sector, the company expects that users will naturally encounter and experience K-pop while exploring content on the platform.
HYBE will open the video podcast channel on the 23rd, at which time the channel's official name will also be revealed. The HYBE video podcast will feature artists from HYBE Music Group ad well as creators from various fields, engaging in conversations centered on music and everyday life. The channel will operate in an omnibus format, bringing together content with different themes within a single platform. The first content is scheduled to be release sequentially starting in April.
HYBE has previously produced a wide range of content utilizing artist intellectual property—including documentaries, variety programs, and live performance recordings—through a production system equipment, and dedicated filming studios. The upcoming video podcast content will also be produced by HYBE's in-house production division, HYBE Media Studio (HMS).
HYBE stated, "This collaboration is an effort to create opportunities for audiences to experience K-pop in a more approachable way through the format of video podcasts. Through stories on a variety of topics that allow people to engage with not only the music but also K-pop culture in an enjoyable way, we aim to continue expanding our points of connection with new fan bases."
Gautam Talwar, General Manager for Asia-Pacific at Spotify, said, "Every show as they support their favorite artists. This partnership with HYBE was created to respond to that energy by bringing fans closer to the stories behind the music, the personalities of the artists, and their creative journeys." He added, "Moving forward, Spotify hopes to open new avenues that allow fans to connect more closely not only with artists but also with the cultures they cherish, through a wider range of video podcasts and original stroytelling content."
