In 2025, BTS's clock will start ticking again. With their full return approaching K-Pop fans' attention heating up.
Even with a nearly two-year hiatus as a group, BTS has continuously made its work on the American Billboard charts, both as group and as solo artists, and has broken music video viewership records, demonstrating consistent fan interest and high expectations for their comeback.
In June last year, the eldest member, Jin, was discharged, following by J-Hope in October, both returning to their ARMY (fanbase). This year, all remaining members will complete their service. RM and V are set to return in June 10, while Jimin and Jungkook, who enlisted together, are scheduled for June 12. Suga will be discharged on June 22.
However, not everything is smooth. There are also challenges surrounding them. HYBE's chairman Bang Sihyuk has started a fierce legal battle with Min Heejin, the former head of ADOR, and NewJeans. During this process, the company's image has suffered seriously. BTS member Suga also faced public criticism after being caught driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol during his service, which led to a visit to the police station.
Despite this, there is significant anticipation in the industry for BTS's comeback. The securities market also has a positive outlook on HYBE's performance improvement due to BTS's full group return, especially since BTS's revenue share within HYBE had decreased.
In addition to the upcoming release of J-Hope's solo album in the first half of the year, the members' presence has been solidified by Jimin's solo song charting on Billboard Hot 100, among other major charts.
J-Hope will holds his first world tour "J-Hope Tour : Hope On The Stage," from February 28 to March 2 at the KSPO Dome in Songpa-gu, Seoul. The three-day concert sold out immediately upon the start of pre-sales.
"Hope On The Stage" will kick off in Seoul before heading to a North America tour. Notably, J-Hope will become the First Korean solo artist to perform at BMO Stadiums in Los Angeles, USA. The news of his tour has garnered considerable attention from international media, including Forbes and AP.
Jimin's second solo album "Muse" and its title track "Who" have made an impressive comeback, re-entering the main song chart Hot 100 at 24th place, showcasing incredible staying power. "Who" has set a new record as a K-Pop solo track with the longest-charting run on the Hot 100 in the past 10 years, surpassing Psy's "Gangnam Style."
BTS's digital single "Dynamite," released on August 21, 2020, has also achieved 2 billion streams on Spotify as the latest data (January 12). BTS is the first K-Pop group to reach this milestone with a single song.
An industry insider commented, "Despite negative issues during their hiatus, such as Suga's drunk driving incident and internal conflicts within HYBE, Jimin, Jungkook, and others have set a new records on the Billboard Hot 100, proving the power of their global fandom." The source added, "With their return, there is a lot of attention in whether they will continue to make an impact in the ever-evolving K-Pop industry."
