V and Jungkook's settlement with YouTuber from "Taldeok Camp" falls through... Case to resume in appeals court
BTS members V and Jungkook's attempt to reach a settlement in their damages lawsuit against the operator of the YouTube channel "Taldeok Sooyangso" (Taldeok Camp) has failed at the Seoul Western District Court, and the case will now proceed to a full appeal trial.
According to the legal sources on the 21st, the court declared the meditation unsuccessful during the scheduled statement hearing between V, Jungkook, and their agency BigHit Music, and the YouTuber known as A.
As a result, the meditation process that had been encouraged by the appellate court was terminated, and the appeals trials will now begin in earnest.
The case began when the YouTube channel "Taldeok Sooyangso" (Taldeok Camp) repeatedly uploaded malicious ans false content targeting celebrities including V and Jungkook.
In response, BigHit Music filed a lawsuit in March 2023, demanding KR₩90 million (approx. US$ 70,000) in damages for defamation and interference with business operations caused by the false videos.
In the first trial, which took place in February 2024, the court ordered A to pay KR₩51 million (approx. US$ 37,179) to BigHit Music, KR₩10 million (approx. US$ 7,290) to V, and KR₩15 million (approx. US$ 10,935) to Jungkook. However, A appealed the ruling immediately after.
The court then referred the case to meditation, but the parties were unable to reach an agreement.
Additionally, A is facing both civil and criminal trials for spreading false information and defamation against not only V and Jungkook, but also IVE member Jang Wooyoung and other celebrities.
BigHit Music stated, "We will continue to take legal actions against the spread of false information and malicious content," and "We are committed to protecting our artists' rights until the very end.
While V and Jungkook have not made separate public statements, they reportedly intend to actively participate in the appeal proceedings following the failed statements.
