[Article Trans] "From father to younger brother"... BTS Jimin's family of three sets a first ever record with Green Umbrella donations
BTS member and world-renowned artist Jimin continues to spread positive influence by practicing love for his neighbors together with his family.
According to the child welfare organization Green Umbrellah ChildFund Korea (Chariman Hwang Young-gi) on the 26th, this past May, Jimin's younger brother joined the organization's "Green Noble Club," following Jimin and their father. With this, Jimin's family became the very first "father and two sons" trio members of the Green Noble Club.
Since its launce in 2017, the Green Noble Club has been recognized as a donation networking leading Korea's culture of large-scale giving, growing in just eight years to a membership of 548 donors.
Jimin first joined the club in 2021 by donating 100 million KRW (approx. $71,426) to support self-reliant youth in Busan, children's families struggling financially after COVID-19, and to improve housing environments for underprivileged children.
In 2022, his father also joined the Green Umbrella's talent development program "I-LEADER." Then in May of this year, Jimin's younger brother, Park Jihyun, who had just completed his military service, also joined the club, making them the first-ever father-and-sons trio members.
Back in 2021, Jimin supported self-reliant youth through the "Together Green Future" project. Many of these youths have since successfully become independent by starting cafes or working as hair designers, nurse assistants, and more. His good influence also encouraged many companies to join in, creating a virtuous cycle of giving that continues to this day.
In addition, Jimin and his family have donated to "I-LEADER," Green Umbrella's talent development program, encouraging the dreams of gifted children. Since 2009, this program has supported 8,436 young leaders up until 2024, with 1,573 children active this year alone.
Jimin's "DNA of giving" comes from his father. Since 2021, his father has steadily supported neighbors in need through Green Umbrella for four years. That year, after learning that a single father supported by Green Umbrella could not eat properly due to losing his teeth, Jimin's father personally donated 15 million KRW (approx. $10,713) for dental treatment. He also provides mothly living expenses for a child separated from their main guardian due to family circumtances. Additionally, he began supporting three high school students whose families faced hardships during COVID-19, continuing his support until they were admitted to universities.
Outside of Green Umbrella, Jimin has also been a consistent benefactor to his alma mater, Busan High School of Arts, donating an annual 30 million KRW (approx. $21,432) scholarship since 2019. His scholarship has become a source of strength for juniors excelling in dance, fine arts, and music. In 2020, he also replace 1,200 desks and chairs at the school, supported students struggling with entrance exam preparation, and created performance opportunities for juniors whose stages were canceled due to COVID-19.
Furthermore, Jimin has steadily supported education across Korea. Starting with the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education in 2019, he donated 100 million KRW each to Jeonnam, Gangwon, Chungbuk, Gyeongnam, and most recently Jeonbuk in 2024, all for nurturing future talent. Since 2019, he has also purchased more than 30 million KRW worth of ramen annually to support single-parent families and elderly people living alone, and in 2021 donated 100 million KRW to the International Rotary Club. in 2023, he gave scholarships to Busan Dong-eui Science Univerity and donated 100 million KRW in emergency relief for children affected by the earthquakes in Turkiye and Syria.
Even during his military service, Jimin continued giving. He donated 100 million KRW to support Army soldiers and their families with living costs, medical expenses, and scholarships, and in 2025, upon learning of the rapid spread of wildfires in Gyeongbuk, he donated 100 million KRW to improve the housing conditions of low-income elderly people.
Jimin has proven his positive influence both domestically and internationally, extending a helping hand wherever needed. His example has also spread to his fans, shaping a "giving fandom culture." Every year, fans around the world hold charity campaigns on Jimin's birthday and anniversaries, further expanding his influence. Since 2019, scholarships have been donated under Jimin's name through Green Umbrella Busan to his alma mater, and when disasters strike, fans hold relay donations in his name, creating a cycle of giving that benefits expands from fandom to society and even worldwide.
In recognition of this, Green Umbrella presented a plaque of appreciation to Jimin's father from Chairman Hwang Young-gi in 2024, and to Jimin himself from National Sponsorship Chariman Choi Bul-am in 2025.
Chariman Hwang Young-gi said, "The positive influence of Jimin and his family goes beyond donations—it symbolizes the inheritance of giving across generations and the expansion of fandom culture. Green umbrella will continue to do its best to bring real change to children's lives through warm sharing."
