Dr. Lee Dong-gu of the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology has been selected as one of the "Innovative Leaders Driving Korea in 2025," a special project commemorating the 80th anniversary of liberation, hosted by News Maker.
Dr. Lee recognized for his significant contributes in leading change and innovation during an era of fierce global competition, thereby enhancing Korea's capabilities and stature. He was named in the Innovation Project Division.
Among the 55 figures as "Innovative Leaders Driving Korea in 2025" were President Lee Jae-myung, Samsung Electronics chairman Lee Jae-yong, Hyundai Motor Group chairman Chung Eui-sun, President of the Federation of Korean Associations, USA Jung Myung-hoon, Honorary Chairman of the Korea Federation of Artistic and Cultural Organisation Ha Chul-kyung, singers BTS, actor Lee Jung-jae, and soccer player Son Heung-min, all of whom have made great contributions to national and social development through socially innovative leadership.
Since joining the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology in 1986, Dr. Lee has worked for more than 38 years, establishing science and technology policies to advance the petrochemical industry, increase the value-added production of the fine chemical industry. In particular, through the RUPI (Roadmap for the Advancement Industry) project, he played a major role in driving the development and resurgence of the chemical industry, which had reached maturity. His achievements earned him honors such as the Presidential Commendation (2018).
Currently, Dr. Lee is actively serving as an invited professor at the University of Ulsan, head of the RUPI Project Group, chairman of the Digital Innovation I Forum, and president of the Techno Sumna Association.
Dr. Lee commented, "As long as human needs for food, clothing, and shelter di not disappear, and even the age of AI, the importance of chemical materials will only grow, so the chemical industry will continue to develop. Issues such as global warming caused by indiscriminate greenhouse gas emissions are serious warning to the Earth. Ultimately, it is green chemical technology that will solve these environmental and energy problems, and I am determined to continue contributing my efforts."
