Hong Ra-hee and RM Selected Among 20 Most Influential Figures in the Korean Art Market 2025
Hong Ra-hee, honorary director of the Leeum Museum of Art, and RM of BTS have been named among the 20 most influential figures in the Korean Art Market
On the 12th, the Paradise Cultural Foundation and the Seoul National University Business Research Institute released the Korean Art Market 2025 report, which for the first time identified 20 key figures shaping the Korean art market. The selection was based on a survey of officials from major domestic galleries, and no ranking was assigned among the chosen individuals.
The report described Honorary Director Hong Ra-hee as a member of the Samsung family and a collector known for her discerning taste, adding that she has helped shape the landscape of the Korean art world through her collection of significant domestic and international artworks.
Among business leader, Suh Kyung-bae, chairman of the Amorepacific Group, was also included. An avid art collector himself, Chairman Suh established the Amorepacific Museum of Art (APMA).
RM was the only individual from outside the art field to make the list. Widely recognized as an art enthusiast, he is set to hold a special exhibition of his private collection at the San Fransisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) in October next year. The report described RM as "a passionate art collector and cultural influencer, noting that "he frequently visit domestic and international museums and contemporary art exhibitions, and shares his experiences through social media, thereby increasing public interest in art."
Among artists, Lee Bae, Suh Doho, Yang Haegyu, and Kim Ahyoung were selected. The report praised Lee Bae as "a powerfull figure in the Korean art market, often referred to as "the second Lee Ufan."
Other names on the list include Kim In-hye, Head Curator at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art; Seo Jin-seok, Director of the Busan Museum of Art; Do Hyung-tae, CEO of the Hyundai Gallery; Tina Kim, founder of Tina Kim Gallery in New York; Lee Sung-hoon, Chairman of the Galleries Association of Korea, Son Emma, Senior Diretor at Lehmann Maupin; and Son Young-hee, founder of Art Busan.
