Jungkook Achieves Major Success in His Sports Debut, Surpassing Ronaldo and Messi

The connection between sports and K-pop has existed for many years. Numerous major and minor sporting events in South Korea and abroad have featured K-pop idols — particularly baseball games, where idol singers often perform. Artists such as EXO and CL even took the stage at the Closing Ceremony of the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics. Still, this connection had always remained somewhat abstract.

That's why, when Jungkook was announced as the artist chosen to perform the official theme song for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and to appear at the opening ceremony, many football fans were initially skeptical about the idol's abilities.

However, all negative preconceptions disappeared the moment "Dreamers" aired and Jungkook stepped onto the Al Bayt Stadium stage in front of hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide. Following his debut solo performance of "Dreamers" at the world's biggest sporting event, social media was flooded with praise, admiration, and even "confessions" from football fans — including many who had previously shown no interest in K-pop.

Recently, Jungkook and "Dreamers" reached yet another remarkable milestone that further cements his standing in both the sports and music industries. The official "Dreamers" music video on FIFA's YouTube channel has now surpassed 425 million views, making it the most-viewed video in FIFA YouTube history — surpassing all videos related Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

In addition, Jungkook achieved yet another career milestone as "Dreamers" officially surpassed 500 million streams on Spotify, adding a new solo record to his list of achievements. This accomplishment is particularly meaningful, as "Dreamers" represent Jungkook's first official crossover into the world of sports.

With this latest record, Jungkook has become the first Korean artist in history to have five solo songs surpass 500 million streams on Spotify — including "Seven," "Standing Next To You," "Left and Right," "3D," and "Dreamers." These achievements further solodify his title as "K-pop King of Spotify." even during his ongoing two-year military service hiatus.

As of now, Jungkook's total solo streams on Spotify have exceeded 9.7 billion — a staggering figure for any Asian artist. His mega-hit "Seven" alone has surpassed 2.5 billion streams, making Jungkook the first Korean artist ever to reach this milestone.

These record-breaking numbers prove that Jungkook's music has achieved a truly global reach, serving as a source of pride not only for BTS but also for fans worldwide.
