J-Hope Shares the Heartbreaking Story of His Two Adopted Cats, Including a Kitten With Eye Necrosis
After many months of longing, the global ARMY community burst into happiness when Suga unexpectedly went live on the 28th, marking his first live broadcast in nearly three years. During the broadcast, he spoke directly with fans, a moment many had been waiting for. However, the year-end gift did not stop there. Later that same evening, RM also met fans in a sweet and warm conversation. Even more surprisingly, on the 29th, j-hope knocked on the door of Weverse live as well, spending around half a hour chatting with fans from around the world.
With the BTS rap line going live consecutively within a 24-hour period, ARMYs could hardly contain their happiness—especially as they stand on the threshold of welcoming 2026, with a full album and a world tour reportedly in the planning stages.
One particularly interesting topic emerged repeately throughout the broadcasts that day: cat adoption. Suga was the first to admit it openly, no longer able to hide the truth after the sound of a cat was "caught red-handed" during his live broadcast. He introduced the newest member of BTS's pet family—the three-year-old black cat, Seoltang.
Meanwhile, RM straightforwardly denied having any pets, explaining that he is currently not raising any dogs or cats. As for j-hope, he could no longer "avoid" the question either. He finally confessed that he is currently raising cats—not just one, but two.
During his live broadcast on the 29th, j-hope shared, for the first time, detailed information about the circumtances of the two cats he is caring for. He eplained that while watching Suga's live and seeing Tang (Seoltang), he noticed a fan comment asking whether he was raising a cat as well. At first, j-hope hesitated for a long time about whether he should make this public, as he wanted everything to happen naturaly rather than feeling like an "announcement" to fans.
"But you probably heared the sound of cats at my house. Actually, I wanted to show you naturally. I thought it wasn't right to say, 'Here are my cats!'" he said shyly.
J-Hope tthen went on to share the difficult backgrounds of his cats. One is a rescued cat, and the other was abandoned, with one of them having suffered from necrosis in one eye. He explained, "It was during a time when Mickey was sick, and I was studying animals a lot. I'm someone who really likes dogs, and I never dreamed I would come to love cats. Before going to the military, I had a film shoot, and when I went to the set, there were so many tiny kittens there. One kitten had an eye that looked... How should I say this... A bit necrotic. It made me so sad that I felt I needed to get it treated. So I rescued that cat and brought it to the hospital."
He continued, "As I took care of that cat, I became charmed by cats. That cat was eventually able to find a good home. Through that experience, I grew interested in cats, and all my algorithms turned toward cat-related content."
He also shared the story of other cat: "The other cat is a very pretty cat that was abandoned. It was heartbreaking that it couldn't find a good home, so I brought it home myself."
At this point, fans could no longer hold back their emotions, expressing deep admiration for j-hope's compassion toward abandoned animals. One fan wrote, "Oh my Hobi, he is literally an angel and has one of the purest hearts ever." Another shared, "He's truly an angel to animals. I still remember he has the 'Paw In Hand' app, has brought animals to the vet before, and even donated to animal shelters."

In fact, j-hope has long been known for his love for abandoned animals. There is even a story within the fandom that he once took an injured stray cat to the hospital and paid all of its medical expenses just before boarding a flight for an overseas schedule. His compassion for animals seems to run inthe family, as their dog Mickey was also an abandoned pet adopted by his mother and sister.
Not only j-hope, but many members of BTS share a similar bond with animals who cam from difficult circumtances. Mickey was picked up by the Jung family at a gas station. V's Yeontan is a fragile dog who has suffered from respiratory illness. Jungkook's Bam was once described as a puppy who did not receive enough of his mother's milk and was fed ony dog food. Meanwhile, Holly—Suga's dog—has also been mentioned as a case of adoption after abandonment.
The way BTS members have cared for these small and vulnerable lives clearly reflects their warm hearts and admirable character. They do not meassure the value of a life—whether it is an injured stray cat, a sick puppy, or an abandoned pet left behind. In a world where everything is often judged by benefit and gain, BTS offers a quiet but powerful reminder that compassion and kindness still exist.
From another perspective, the fact that BTS members willingly adopt pets with difficult backgrounds mirrors how they approach fame itself. Despite being global superstars, they continue to hold dep sensitivity toward the pain of small and vulnerable lives—one of the most genuine and instinctive forms of kindness. Moments like these only deepen the public's love and admiration for them.
