BigHit Producer Shares Objective Insight on the BTS Member with the Most Unique Voice After Years of Working Together

 

Western music often places the song at the center, with performance treated as a "bonus," whereas K-pop is designed as an all encompassing entertainment package. Rather than prioritizing a single element, K-pop emphasizes the harmonious  combination of multiple components—melody, choreography, visuals, vocals, concept, and more. However, at the core of pop music in general, the primary focus still lies in sound. Therefore, for K-pop idols, vocal ability remains an important standard.

This is no exception for global superstar BTS—more especially, the group's vocal line, consisting of Jin, Jimin, Jungkook, and Taehyung. Most fans know that not all four members had a singing background form an early age. While Jimin had an advantage in contemporary dance, Jin began his career in acting. As a result, the BTS members—especially the vocal line—have worked extremely hard on vocal training for many years, from their trainee days to long after their debut. Even at the peak of their careers, they have never stopped striving to refine their vocals.

That is why all four members have consistently received praise and recognition from leading professionals in the industry. Vocal teacher Kim Sungeun—who taught BTS's vocal line from the very beginning—described them as "incredible individuals," adding, "Not only are they great artists, but they are also amazing people. No matter how busy they were, they never stopped practicing and always cared for the people around them." Their ability to sing live has also been proven through countless performances.

At the same time, each BTS member possesses a distinct vocal color and unique strength shaped by different factors, meaning that any comparison between their voices is never entirely accurate. Likewise, it is difficult to single out who has the best voice among them.

However, BigHit Music produce June—who has worked closely with BTS's main vocalists—once boldly shared his opinion on which member stands out slightly more in terms of vocals. His remarks offered fans a more professional perspective on the group's vocalists.

For those unfamiliar with him, June has collaborated with BTS since 2017 on various songs. He has worked as a music producer and also contributed vocals to several BTS tracks, including the B-sides "Awake" and "Lost" from the album "Wings," as well as the title track "Not Today" from "You Never Walk Alone." 

With the experience, there is no doubt that June understands the members very well, and he openly acknowledged that all of them have unique voices. However, if he had to choose the most outstanding vocalist, June favours Jimin.

The renowned producer praised Jimin's captivating voice, stating that the star even possesses "the best vocal tone" among K-pop idols. He shared, "His singing voice continues to impress me to this day. I believe that artists should have a good singing voice for people to enjoy listening to them. I helped the members record in the studio. All of the members have good voices, but if I had to choose the best singing voice, I would say Jimin has the best." 

Jimin have received high acclaim for his bright, clear, and emotionally rich tone, along with remarkable control—especially in the high register. What sets Jimin apart is not only his technique but also the way he connects with the lyrics. Listeners can feel sincerity and emotional depth in every line he sings.

Not only June, but many industry experts have made similar remarks about his vocals, Kim Youngdae, a renowned Korean music critic and a member of the selection committee for the Korean Music Awards, once noted, "When BTS is regarded as a sound, Jimin's voice is one of the most important auditory elements that make up its fingerprint and overall impression."

Jimin's achievements as a solo artist—such as becoming the first Korean soloist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Like Crazy," holding the record for the longest-charting K-pop solo song on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Who," and being the first solo artist to surpass 1.45 million first week sales on Hanteo with "Face"—are just a few of many accomplishments that demonstrate his highly praised voice and the widespread affection he received from the public.
