Jin's 10-Year-Old Master Plan with BigHit Is Suddenly Going Viral Again
Many fans already know that Jin was street-cast by BigHit Entertaiment while he was a university student majoring in acting at Konkuk University. However, what many may not know is that SM Entertainment also extended an offer to him at the same time—an offer he ultimately turned down. What makes this surprising is that, compared to BigHit, SM was far more established and held a much stronger position in the industry at the time.
So why did Jin choose BigHit over the industry giant SM? The truth is that BigHit Entertainment's staff appeared to be far more experienced when ti came to what Jin jokingly describe as "playing tricks."
"I was fooled (laughs)," Jin said, recalling his casting at BigHit Entertainment in the spring of 2011. He continued, "Look at how idols these days go into acting—'We'll let you become an actor eventually.' That's how they convinced me. They were very persuasive."
Although this "trick" ultimately turned out to be a tremendous success for both BigHit and Jin, it seems he never quite let it slide. Instead, he devised a long-term plan to "get back at" his agency. Ten years later, Jin's plan has ressurfaced and is once again going viral on social medi. While it may not be a hundred percent complete yet, he has already achieved more than half of it—and appears quite satisfied.
Recently, a fan post caught widespread attention after sharing a note jin had written during a BTS fansign event in Myeongdong many years ago. In the note, a fan asked, "What is your biggest wish for 2016?"Jin simply replied: "Buy BigHit." Whether then or now, fans couldn't help but burst into laughter at his bold and cheeky answer.
Under the viral post were thousands of humorous comments, such as:
"They now own HYBE, not just BigHit,"
"JinHit Entertainment is coming soon,"
"Smart from day one,"
"Jin has an IGIN company now,"
"We need JinHit Entertainment,"
"Jin and the other BTS members own HYBE,"
"He's had vision since day one,"
"We support JinHit," and more.
"Buy BigHit" was not merely a joke for a fleeting remark, but something Jin had been actively playing up for years. At one point, he shared a photo taken in front of the BigHit logo sign, boldly covering the word "Big" with his own face and captioning it, "It should be JinHit." From that moment on, the legend of "JinHit Entertainment" was born.
Over time, many of Jin's actions toward Chairman Bang Si-hyuk and the BigHit staff further reinforced this so-called "plan to take over BigHit." From casually cutting his own bangs with scissors in the bathroom, to openly complaining about the company's merchandise prices, to adjusting ticket prices for his own concert, Jin has consistently shown an independent personality—leading fans to believe that he is not just an artist, but someone who pratically has management wrapped around his finger.
Jin's influence within BigHit today is also evident in his solo tour. Typically, performance plans and concepts are proposed by the agency—but not in Jin's case. He personally devised the concert concept, placing fans at the center of the experience, and meticulously planned every activity throughout the two-hour show. Jin effectively served as the director, with staff supporting him in bringing his vision to life.
At the same time, Jin maintains a relaxed and comfortable relationship with CEO Bang Si-hyuk. Rather than a strict boss-employee dynamic, Jin casually jokes with him, calls the chairman "hyungnim"—a term used between close brothers—and even demands that Bang PD cook for him, all of which highlight his unique standing with the company.
In addition, Jin carries the demeanor of a CEO himself, having grown up in a family with a strong business background and sharp business acumen. His father and older brother are both successfull businessmen, and his family is relatively well-off. Today, Jin is not only a K-pop superstar but also a co-owner of a Japanese restaurant and a traditional ready-to-drink liquo brand that is performing well.
Taking all of this into account, it becomes clear that "buying BigHit" is not just a joke, but a plan well within Jin's reach. While fans laugh at a note written ten years ago, Jin might very well be sitting in a waiting room somewhere, eating rame while flipping through company financial statements. For him owning BigHit is probably no longer just a "wish," but simply a matter of when he'll have time to sign the papers.
