Korean Netizens Share Their Reactions to the Mexican President's request to Add Extra Dates for BTS's Concert in Mexico

[Theqoo] Mexican President: "Requested Additional BTS Concerts from the Korean president"... 'One million' ticket war

[Excerpt from an article]

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has revealed that she has sent a letter to President Lee Jae-myung of South Korea requesting that the world-famous group BTS to increase the number of their concert dates in Mexico.

At a regular press conference on the 26th (local time), President Sheinbaum said, "Many young people were unable to obtain tickets for BTS's concert in Mexico scheduled for May," adding, "More than 150,000 tickets were sold, but over one million people tried to secure seats.".

She continued that she had spoken with the local Mexican promoter of the BTS concerts, emphasizing, "Only three shows in Mexico City have been confirmed, so I made a polite diplomatic request to the Korean president asking that BTS visit more frequently."

President Sheinbaum added, "I hope to receive a positive response from Korea, or at least permission for a screen viewing," and said, "We need to find way for more young people to experience this group, which is enjoying tremendous popularity in Mexico."

As part of their world tour, BTS is scheduled to perform in Mexico City on May 7 and May 9-10.

The venue is GBP Seguros Stadium, which can accommodate up to 60,000 people and has previously hosted concerts by Blackpink, Twice, and Taylor Swift.

On the 19th, President Sheinbaum also described BTS's Mexico concerts as " historic" and called for thorough oversight by authorities to ensure fairness and transparency in the ticket sales process.

Ticket sales for the BTS Mexico concerts began at 9 a.m. in the 24th on the 24th, and all seats for the three shows sold out within 37 minutes.

Comments:

1. Why would you make an additional request to the president? I know it's supposed to be a joke, but still—people who say stuff like that are weird. Do they think this is some kind of dictatorship? Why say that to the president when it's not even something he can decide? I don't get it. Is that actually possible in their own country, so that's why they talk like that?

2. But I guess having a lot of unhinged haters is kind of the fate of the most successful idols... and BTS is the most successful of them all, ㅋㅋㅋ
Anyway, I'm so proud of BTS!

3. Looks like there's a lot of reverse-viral stuff going around with the BTS and HYBE keywords.
Considering they're basically promoting the country and elevating Korea's global standing, it's wild how many mindless, snarky comments there still are.

4. What are people who get triggered by stuff like this even going to do going forward? Articles like this are only going to keep pouring out. And since the comeback performance is at Gwanghwamun, it's going to be chaos again before and after the show. They should just stop caring—living life in hard mode for no reason.

5. It's a great topic to approach diplomatically first, and if people from nearby countries come to watch the concert while traveling, it brings in tourism revenue too—so it's good for everyone, isn't it? Why on earth would anyone get triggered by this?

6. I saw the headline and went in thinking, "Yeah, they really are amazing," but what is up with those comments? ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Honestly, BTS is in another level—what's the point of getting triggered over this? ㅋㅋㅋㅋ If you get worked up over it, you're just embarrassing yourself.

7. Why are they demanding this from the president... I don't even know where to start or who's wrong—it's that complicated. Even if you call it a diplomatic remark, it's really not great. At this rate, IT feels like the singer only gets talked about in relation to the country—are they some kind of state-affiliated artist or what?

8. How much economy benefit do you think there has to be for the president to even say something like that? You Can just take it as, "Wow, that's impressive," and move on.

9. They're basically using BTS's visit as an opportunity for our president to open up dialogue and build rapport too, you know.

10. If a Korean artist has reached this level of global status, even if you can't praise them, you can at least think, "That's impressive." Why are people getting so worked up about it?

11. Seeing people even spewing unhinged comments on a post like this, I finally get why every BTS-related article has always turned into chaos.

12. It feels half joking, half serious lol. Since it's a stadium concert, even just two days means I et 100,000 attendees—and if those people stay for a few days and visit even one or two tourist spots, that's a huge amount of money. From a tourism industry perspective, it's a massive issues so it totally makes sense for the president to bring it up.

13. All that money—do you know how much it is? IT brings in foreign currency, they pay tons of taxes, it's a good thing. So why are people getting so pressed? Lol. I came into a BTS post on purpose, just to watch all the different types of unhinged people.

14. You only get dragged like this here, but BTS's world tour is said to have an impact comparable to the Olympics or the World Cup. Don't just look at idols—try watching economic news too and broaden your perspective a bit.

15. It's a world where it feels natural for heads of Staten to bring up BTS as a small talk. But it seems like there's a spoonful of sincerity mixed in there—hart to say it's just a joke lol.

16. These days, people who cry "nationalistic hype" at everything are just like those haters who go around calling everything cringe.

17. HYBE must be loving it—using BTS as a shield makes the company's risk defense look pretty solid.

18. Just try switching perspectives. A pop star is holding their first concert in Korea and the whole country goes wild—so they're acknowledging public sentiment while also making small talk to build goodwill with the artist's home country. That's basically what it is.

19. They say there were similar talks when Taylor Swift went on tour too. It just means they're that popular—let's not embarrass ourselves by acting obviously pressed over another idol being successful.

20. If they bring in a lot of foreign currency, that's a good thing—so why are people mad? It's good for Korean residents there, good for Mexico with a boost to the local economy, what is there to be angry about?

21. When Taylor Swift held concerts in Canada, politicians came out to welcome her too, saying the economic impact was positive. And if there's a concert in Mexico, it's not like only Mexicans will attend—people will come from nearby North and South American countries as well, do the economic impact will be even greater.

22. Why do people even get angry over articles like this... There are so many weird people. If a Korean artist is popular overseas and bringing in foreign currency, that's a good thing, isn't it?

23. Like, seriously? Why are they so mad? I'm not even a BTS fan—I just think, "wow, they're really popular." But there are so many angry people in the comments, it's honestly fascinating. What, are they traitors or something? Isn't a good thing when Korean artists are popular?

24. BTS is seriously insane. The only ones getting all worked up are people who thought BTS had already fallen off. Most normal people see this and just think, "wow, they really are world stars," lol.

25. Wow, the venue holds up 60,000 seats and it sold out in just 37 minutes??? Heir servers must be really solid...

26. Taylor Swift's tour also had huge economic effects, causing a stir in every city and country she went to—so why are some people getting salty about it?

27. Wow, if even the president is requesting that, BTS must be insanely popular in Mexico.

28. Wow, BTS really must be super popular.

29. But I heard they sent a direct link to a reseller or something... Anyway, they just ended up making the reseller richer...
I wonder how they're going to deal with that first, and what else will be added.

30. No, it could be that the president used it politically to gain popularity (who knows). So why are they picking on our country here?

31. This is literally a performance to show they're treating it as a big, national-level event lol. It's not like your country is pressuring BTS to add an extra day lol—they're asking us nicely. Our country's prestige just went up. From a single BTS concert. Do I really need to explain this? Is it just early morning and only the dumb ones are awake... Go grab some coffee.

32. Judging by the comments, people actually thought they wouldn't make it big after their military service.

33. Their concerts basically become tourist attractions... Wherever there's a BTS concert, it must bring in a ton of foreign revenue.

34. When the concert goes well, nearby shops benefit too, obviously. But why are so my many comments so triggered?

35. So they asked the President, not BTS's agency?

36. It's wild how some people have to drag BTS even when they're doing well. Di they actually think it makes them look important or something?

37. So if the president says "add more," they actually go ahead and do it?

38. Why are people so twisted about this? If a president from another country even mentions it, that's impressive, and it's only natural to feel a little proud, isn't it?

39. Thanks for hyping it up in small talk, but please do something about the fact that real fans couldn't get tickets because the resellers got direct links in advance and scooped them all up... Mrs. President of Mexico... I heard the ticketing was a total mess for the local fans ㅠㅠ

40. When a concert happens, fans come from outside too, so if you think about the expected economic impact from that, it's not understandable at all, right?
