[Theqoo] Korean netizens agree that BTS’s popularity has now reached the same level as Michael Jackson and The Beatles.

[Theqoo — 260507] Beatles, Michael Jackson, and BTS

They say these are the artists who have been invited to Mexico's National Palace and greeted people from the balcony up until now.
(It's just a joke/meme—not saying they're on the same level as the Beatles or Michael Jackson).

Comments:

1. They're honestly so incredible and moving — truly living legends.

2. Are BTS in the last photo???? Where are they? That crowd is absolutely insane.

3. Ohh, so I guess not many artists have been invited there. And even if there were, there probably weren't many artists who drew a crowd that huge.

4. Why do people like them that much? The people they used to be in the past have all changed and aren't the same anymore.

5. This is insane lol. Honestly, I think younger generations after me might appreciate BTS even more. Since everything is still ongoing right now, maybe people can't truly realize it yet... I'm a fan of another group, but BTS feels like a separate category altogether?? That's how impressive I think they are.

6. Damn! As expected from BTS—it honestly makes me proud to be living in the same era as artists like them.

7. Where did all those people who mocked them for "just being famous for being famous" go? lol. Bet they're clenching their teeth and pretending not to see stuff like this, right? lol so funny.

8. It seems like it's not just Mexico—everywhere they go on their world tour, things go absolutely crazy.

9. I saw the video on YouTube, and it was honestly insane. Someone who didn't know better would probably think they were hold a concert there lol.

10. BTS are amazing! Hope they become even bigger and more successful!

11. Is the last photo really BTS at that moment? Wow, that's absolutely massive. I'd only seen the balcony photos before, so this is my first time seeng the crowd shot—wow. I didn't realize the empty space in the middle was because BTS were up on the balcony lol.

And honestly, it really is impressive for a foreign artit to be officially invited by a president like that.

12. Wow, and they said it was announced only a few hours beforehand like a surprise even, right? That's seriously incredible. BTS deserve even more success!

13. I guess it can't really be helped that people in South Korea tend to judge Korean artists move harshly since they're local artists lol. I hope they become even more successful and keep introducing Korea to the world~~

14. Wow, that's crazy.
If they're getting that kind of reaction even in  country so far away, why were people here dragging them so much all this time? lol. Watching it was honestly exhausting. People kept saying it was just "fame hype," but at this point they really are just genuinely famous.

15. I was wondering where BTS were, and people gathered just to see them looking that tiny from the balcony? Wow...

16. Overseas media have been comparing BTS with The Beatles for a long time already. It feels like Korea is one of the few places that still hesitates to fully acknowledge it.

17. BTS came frm a small company rather than a major entertainment agency from the very beginning, so they didn't start out with huge financial backing. Fame and genuine popularity aren't always the same thing.

18. At that level, the whole Gwanghwamun situation makes total sense and then some. I kept hearing people call them "just hype" for so long that I almost thought there was no real substance to it. Feels like online communities seriously gaslit people about it.

19. The fact that they're all Korean and have such a clean image is what I love most.
When I was living abroad, there were so many times I felt grateful because of BTS. I'll always support them.

20. It's amazing—superstars coming from a small country like Korea is fascinating lol.
I feel like they'll still be doing world tours even in their older years, like Elton John. I hope BTS keep making the music they want to make. I really like how sincere they are about their group activities.

21. I was briefly a fan when I was a freshman in college, and back then some little kids on Twitter were calling me an "ahjumma" lol. Whether people want to admit it or not, they were definitely popular in Korea too. I still keep up with my bias even now loool. At this point in their career, whether people hate on them or support them, the fact that they're still part of the conversation says it all.

22. Back during the Gwanghwamun era, aside from their popularity, I honestly also found things like the "road of the kings" talk a bit excessive, so I wasn't very fond of that either. But separate from that, I do think BTS tends to be unusually underestimated in Korea. Seeing people still mutter things like'they're just famous overseas' even after all this makes me wonder if they don't feel any cognitive dissonance.

23. All the outrage and constant uproar before and after the comeack were ultimately just loud noise without real impact—because, in the end, that was the only thing they could do against a successful BTS.

24. I do think what they achieved is impressive, but honestly, if they didn't want to hear accusations about chart manipulation (sajaegi), they simply shouldn't have done anything that led to those suspicions haha. Regardless of whether it affected where they are now or not, acting like people shouldn't bring it up at all feels pretty shameless lol.

25. You can dislike BTS because of controversies if you want, but saying things like 'they only got big because of overseas hype,' 'they only succeeded because of sajaegi,' or 'they have no real fanbase' honestly just sounds ridiculous to me.

If you look at their concerts since debut, you can literally see the growth step by step—from A Hall to Gymnastics Arena, then Gocheok Sky Dome, then Jamsil. You could clearly feel them getting bigger over time. If they truly had no real fandom or it was all fake, they wouldn't have been able to fill concert venues like that in the first place. Have you ever seen a so-called "sajaegi singer" consistently hold concerts at places like Jamsil? lol.

26. It's honestly hilarious seeing thosr obssessed haters come into every BTS post trying to claim their popularity isn't real. Whenever posts showing their international popularity come up, they immediately go, 'Yeah, but not in korea lool.'

27. I was also thinking of The Beatles while watching BTS videos today. Turns out it's a place they had visited before too.

28. I can't help but feel overwhelmed with pride seeing artists from our country, South Korea, able to achieve something like that.
They really have elevated the country's global presence, and I think that deserves recognition. What they've accomplished is something no artist from any Asian country had done before.

29. And yet there were still people making "overseas popularity only " jokes and claiming BTS weren't actually popular loool.

30. I hope BTS never forgets moments like this and that it says with them as a meaningful memory of a time when they were supported and loved. It's really movingㅠㅠ.

31. Honestly, putting personal taste aside, it's fair to say BTS is an incredibly significant group on a global scale.

32. I actually think the earlier moment—when an ad was briefly shown on a big screen in a square in the UK and a huge crowd gathered—was even more insane, even if the crowd size was smaller. That felt genuinely unreal...ㅋㅋ It was just impressive and kind of mind-blowing.

33. It's really impressive. Beyond Mexico, it feels like they've also built a strong presence across South America—places like Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. It really seems like they've got a solid hold in that region.

34. It looked like even the members of BTS were moved—they were taking out their phones to film and take photos.
It's nice to have a group from Korea that resonates worldwide. I've heard that even overseas Koreans are grateful to them, saying that perceptions of Korean artists have clearly changed before and after BTS.

35. I agree that, based on their current scale, the only K-pop act realistically positioned to break the records of BTS is probably BTS themselves. It's genuinely an impressive level of achievement.

36. It's honestly really impressive. Even if you're not a fan, seeing a scene like that would probably still feel exciting for moving.
And yet there are still weird comments... I really don't get why some people react that way.

37. Irrespective of anything else, it really impressive for this country, lol.
Whenever I see things like this, it honestly feels like the world has changed a lot. It makes me feel like the country's standing has risen this much. Not that long ago, people eould judt hear "Korea" and immediately think of "South or North Korea..."

38. It's often said that Koreans can be quite harsh toward other Koreans. Even abroad, when one Korean person succeeds, there are cases where other Koreans in the community end up distancing or excluding them.

Seeing BTS nowadays sometimes brings back memories of that kind of Korean community dynamic, and it can feel a bit triggering in that sense.

39. It's insane how that many people gathered just within 5 hours of the announcement. I just hope BTS can keep going for a long time.

40. Domestically, there may be controversies, but internationally, the level of popularity of BTS is really something you can only describe as incredible.
