Each BTS members chooses their favorite song from ARIRANG months after its release
BTS recently extended its run on the Billboard 200 chart to an 11th consecutive week with ARIRANG, the album released back in March. According to the latest chart published by Billboard, the group's fifth studio album ranked No. 11 during the most recent tracking week. Previously, ARIRANG made history by becoming the first album by a K-pop artist to spend three consecutive weeks at No. 1 since its release.
Bang Sihyuk (Bang PD nim) once described the project as one in which he and BTS decided "to deeply respect the genre and musical traditions we come from—but never remain confined by them." The result was a 14-track album that, through its blend of pop, hip-hop, and boldly Korean musical elements, has resonated with audiences around the world. The overwhelming love the album has received is proof that both BTS' and Bang PD's vision for ARIRANG has been a tremendous success.
According to the recording, RM and V both selected "One More Night" as their favorite song on the album, highlighting their similar musical tastes. Jin, meanwhile, chose "Into the Sun." He explained, "'Into the Sun' is my favorite song. It's the kind of song that makes you think of the ending scene of a romantic movie when you listen to it."
Suga selected "Come Over," explaining, "I actually thought of it as a fan song, so my choice is 'Come Over.'" His answer carried additional significance, given that he was also one of the song's primary writers.
On the other hand, J-Hope picked "Please," saying, "I think the song called 'Please' is really full of love."
As for Jimin and Jungkook, the Busan duo both chose "SWIM." Jimin shared, "For me, as I kept listening to our album ARIRANG, I feel like 'SWIM" is the one that ends up staying in my heart." Jungkook completely agreed with that sentiment, suggesting that the two youngest members share very similar feelings and perspectives regarding the song."
Interestingly, these current choices differ quite significantly from the members' answer when ARIRANG was first released in March. During STUDIO NOTED I 'ARIRANG', all seven members admitted that choosing a single favorite song was extremely difficult.
Suga remarked, "I feel like my favorite songs Jeep changing," to which Jimin agreed, saying, "Yeah, it's kind of like that." RM also shared the same sentiment, adding, "Of course they change. Even we change, actually," before Jungkook chimed in, "Yeah, exactly."
Nevertheless, when they were asked to choose at the time, RM and Suga both expressed a particular affection for "Like Animals." RM described it as "one of my favorite songs," while Suga went even further, revealing that if the track had not been included on ARIRANG, he had planed to keep it and release it as a solo song himself.
At the time, J-Hope chose "Normal," while Jungkook expressed particular excitement about performing "FYA" during an interview with Zane Lowe shortly afterward.
The fact that the members' favorite songs continue to change over time actually reflects one of ARIRANG's greatest strengths: every track feels like an irresistible love song in it's own unique way. ARMYs completely agree that choosing just one favorite song from ARIRANG is practically impossible.
