A Single BTS Member's Shirt Unexpectedly Outbids Messi's at a Prestigious Charity Auction

 


Christie's announced on July 22 (local time) that it is hosting an online charity auction titled "ONE GOAL" on its official website through July 29. Organized in partnership with Global Citizen to commemorate the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the initiative will donate all proceeds to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to expand access to education and sports for children in underserved communities—a mission that also reflects the core message behind the historic FIFA World Cup Halftime Show featuring BTS.

Among the auction's highlights are seven costume pieces and accessories worn by the BTS members during their Halftime Show performance at MetLife Stadium, including Jungkook's jacket, Jimin's T-shirt, V's scarf, Jin's belt, SUGA's pants, RM's boots, and J-Hope's gloves. The auction also features an impressive collection of memorabilia from global stars, including Lionel Messi's autographed Argentina national team jersey, the official match ball from the FIFA World Cup Final, Madonna's gloves, Justin Bieber's sneakers, and the outfit Shakira wore in her "Dai Dai" music video.





Although every item opened with a starting bid of just $100, it came as little surprise that the prices skyrocketed within just two days. Most notably, one of BTS's seven items has emerged as the most sought-after piece in the auction, attracting an astonishing bid that has even surpassed Messi's signed jersey. The item is Jimin's football-inspired No. 7 T-shirt—the same number worn by Son Heung-min and also a symbolic number representing BTS.

According to the latest update, bidding for Jimin's shirt has already reached $14,000, despite the auction still having six days remaining. The current bid is more than double that of football legend Lionel Messi's autographed jersey, which was signed for Shakira and currently stands at around $5,500. At present, Jimin's shirt is competing directly with the official match ball from the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final to become the highest-priced item in the entire auction.




As a quick update, Jungkook's jacket has also reached a bid of $7,000, slightly surpassing Messi's signed jersey. It is now the second most valuable celebrity item in the auction, behind only Jimin's shirt.




Indeed, the staggering bid comes as little surprise considering the immense global buzz Jimin generated during the FIFA World Cup Halftime Show. His performance alongside BTS captivated audiences worldwide, earning explosive reactions from both the general public and celebrities alike. Commanding the stage with powerful high notes, flawless choreography and striking visuals, Jimin left countless viewers scrambling to find out the identity of "the blond guy" immediately after the show.

Celebrities also couldn't stop talking about him. Before the Halftime Show began, Billboard News host Tetris Kelly excitedly posted on X, "JIMIN AND MADONNA COMINGGGG!!!!" Meanwhile, supermodel Gisele—who has openly expressed her admiration for Jimin—attended the event in person and shared a video of his performance on her Instagram story with the playful caption, "I'm here to cheer for my 'husband.'"

Popular streamer IShowSpeed, who has more than 58 million YouTube subscribers, reacted with an astonished "Yo!" during his livestream, immediately turning his camera toward the giant LED screen the moment Jimin's voice echoed throughout the stadium. Another well-known streamer, Neon, repeatedly shouted, "OH MY GOD, JIMIN, JIMIN!" after hearing Jimin's soaring high notes and later spotting him walking him walking backstage following the performance.




Jimin also won hearts with a touching offstage moment involving the children of New York City's PS22 Chorus. After the event had ended and the other performers had already left, Jimin stayed behind to chat with the children, gently patting them on the head and even hugging each one as they gathered around him. He encouraged them, praised their performance, and expressed his appreciation for their support. The heartwarming interaction quickly spread across social media, prompting comments such as, "Jimin is like the Pied Piper."



Now, days after the historic FIFA World Cup Halftime Show, Jimin's impact continues to resonate. The staggering bid for his stage—worn shirt serves as yet another testament to the K-pop superstar's extraordinary global influence, leaving fans in awe as they remarked:
