BTS members pick the songs that best reflect their true selves throughout their career
Throughout more than a decade of their career, BTS have release hundreds of songs spanning a wide range of genres, from hip-hop, R&B, and pop to ballads, rock, and EDM. Beyond being known for their top-tier performances, the group is also one of the few K-pop acts deeply involved in songwriting, production, and shaping the concepts of every album they release.
In other words, every song they have released is undoubtedly a work they are deeply passionate about and that carries special meaning. That is why choosing just one track to represent themselves is certainly not an easy task. However, in an interview with Esquire magazine, when asked to choose the BTS song that best reflects who they are throughout their musical careers, ball seven members eventually made their choices and explained the reasons behind them.
Starting with the leader RM, he chose "Life Goes On." Although he did not want to reveal too much about the song during the interview, he explained that it represents him best because it is about "life and people." For RM, who always spent a great deal of time reflecting on life and human values. "Life Goes On" severe as a summary of the way he views the world.
Meanwhile, Jin chose "Spring Day," one of the most beloved songs in BTS's discography. The singer shared that he often finds himself in the past and reminiscing about it, something that "Spring Day" captures perfectly. He also admitted that he is "sweet and melancholic," just like the emotional atmosphere of the song.
Suga made a completely different choice by picking "Fire." It was not simply because he loves the song, but also because of his deep connection to its creation. Alongside RM, Suga participated in writing the lyrics and producing "Fire," while also delivering its iconic opening and closing lines: "불타오르네 (bultaoreune) / It's on fire" and "용서해줄게 (yongseohaejulge) / I'll forgive you." Suga went on to express that there "aren't many songs" in which he has such a prominent role, which is why he truly loves "Fire."
For J-Hope, "Mic Drop" was an unsurprising choice. He explained that he has been dancing street style since he was young, making the song's hip-hop performance a perfect reflection of who he is. In addition, J-Hope emphasise that the lyrics conveyed that exact messages that all the members wanted to express at that point in time, making the song even more meaningful to him.
Jimin was the only member who could not settle in just one song. Instead, he chose both "Young Forever" and "Answer: Love Myself." According to Jimin, both tracks reflect his greatest wish: to continue singing alongside the members and performing for fans for many years to come. It is not only his dream but also the motivation that keeps him striving to give his best on stage.
As for V, he selected the global hit "Dynamite." The singer said that the song's overall concept and upbeat retro vibe are very representative of his personality. He also shared that he especially loved the vintage-inspired outfits featured in the music video and felt that they suited him perfectly. Furthermore, because the choreography for "Dynamite" is relatively easier than that of many other BTS songs, V felt that he could relax more, enjoy the stage, and dance more freely.
Finally, Jungkook chose "We Are Bulletproof : The Eternal." The youngest of BTS admitted that while his solo songs might seem like the ones that best represent his personality, this track is the one that "captures it all." He explained that everything he says, thinks, and does has grown alongside the members by his side. "It is all thanks to the members that all of this was possible," and this song represents that feeling for Jungkook.
Although each member chose a different song, one thing all of their answers had in common was that they came from genuine experiences and heartfelt emotions. Some saw themselves in nostalgia, while others found themselves in boundless energy, the desire to remain on stage, or the deep bond they share with their fellow members. Their choices once again demonstrated that BTS's music is not only a collection of globally successful hits but also a diary that documents the true selves of each member throughout their journey of growing together.
