RM Reveals His Ideal Type for the First Time—And His Answer Takes Fans by Surprise

After making headlines with BTS' European tour and their historic performance at the FIFA World Cup Halftime Show, RM continued to capture attention with his appearance on FASHION NEUROSIS, the acclaimed audio/video podcast and talk show hosted by renowned British fashion designer Bella Freud. Before RM, the show had welcomed an impressive lineup of guests, including supermodels Kate Moss and Susie Cave, actresses Cate Blanchett and Courtney Cox, and many others.

FASHION NEUROSIS has earned widespread praise for its unique format. Guests experience what feels like lying on a therapist's couch while Bella Freud begins by asking questions about fashion before gradually delving into deeper conversations about psychology, identity, memories, love, fears, and personal philosophies.

The episode certainly lived up to fans' expectations. Bella Freud asked a series of thought-provoking questions, and RM's responses not only showcased his sharp intellect but also offered refreshingly honest and authentic insights into who he is. In particular, one question about his ideal type quickly became the most talked-about moment following the episode's release.

When Bella Freud asked what kind of person he could fall in love in, RM replied, "I think about it a lot, and I kind of want to see a contradictory side in somebody. If someone can be very, very serious but also very, very ridiculous at the same time, I think I might fall in love with that person."

He then elaborated further, said, "I don't know why, but maybe if I could be with that person for a long time, I feel like I'd have a really, really happy life and happy times with them. There would be so much content—such a richness of conversation. We could talk about social issues or politics one moment, and then suddenly ask, 'Which beer do you prefer the most, Belgian or German?' 'I prefer Korean.'"

RM concluded with a short remark that left many viewers impressed: "Something like that. I think I find it really attractive when I see somebody's duality. The duality."

It is clear that RM placed particular emphasis on what he called "duality." He isn't attracted to someone who is one-dimensional—someone who is only serious or only playful. What captivates him is a person who can be deeply thoughtful and genuinely serious when discussing  important issues, yet also humorous enough to laugh, joke around, and enjoy life's ordinary little moments.

Another phrase that stood out was "full of content," which RM repeated several time throughout his answer. Here, "content" refers not to social media, but the richness of conversation and the depth of one's inner world. He wants someone who can connect with him both intellectually and casually—someone who can discuss broad topics such as politics and social issues one moment, then effortlessly switch to lighthearted conversations, like debating which country's beer tastes better, the next.

Rather than listing conventional traits such as height, appearance, or specific hobbies, RM described his ideal type through a single concept. Ironically, it is precisely this flexible, abstract idea that gave fans the clearest picture yet of the kind of partner he envisions—someone with exceptional emotional intelligence as well as intellectual depth.

After all, effortlessly moving from discussions about politics and society to casual everyday banter requires an extraordinary breadth of knowledge and life experience. It takes someone insightful enough to avoid sounding superficial, yet thoughtful enough not to become preachy. At the same time, seamlessly shifting between seriousness and humor requires remarkable emotional intelligence to naturally guide the rhythm of a conversation. Likewise, the kind of "goofiness" RM described is not genuine foolishness but the confident playfullness of someone who is highly intelligent.

On the other hand, many fans believe RM's ideal type also reflects who he is. The qualities people are drawn to often mirror either themselves or the traits they hope to find in someone else. RM may desire someone like that because he himself embodies the same fascinating duality—a rare balance of high IQ and high EQ, combining the maturity of a thoughtful intellectual with the playful charm of someone who never loses their childlike spirit.

Fans couldn't help but marvel at the BTS leader's unexpectedly profound answer, commenting:

✪ Oh Namjoon... He really wants someone who can talk about the world one minute and joke about everyday things the next.

✪ His mind is beautiful. I always knew someone like President Kim Namjoon could  never have low standards.

✪ From the bottom of my heart, I really hope he finds his person and is truly happy. Namjoon is such an incredible guy—so grounded, yet also funny, smart, sexy, and sensitive. If only someone had a chance with a man like him...

✪ The way I started tearing up just 15 minutes into the podcast. Namjoon is such an intellectual. I love him so much.

✪ Namjoon's ideal type isn't about physical checklists—it's about soul synergy and high emotional intelligence.

✪ Finding someone who can discuss politics one second and joke about beer preferences the net is rare, but honestly, that's the ultimate soulmate.

✪ The way he articulated this is just so attractive. He didn't give a basic answer—he painted a picture of a fulfilling, never-boring life with someone. His mind is truly his biggest rizz.

✪ People think his answer sounds casual, but he actually set the bar sky-high. I just hope one day he'll find this person.

✪ He doesn't just want a partner—he wants an intellectual companion who aloso knows how to have fun. That's top-tier taste.
